The time has come. I have had my Arctic Fox hair color sitting on my shelf for weeks now and it is time to break it out. But first I will have to bleach it because my hair is not blonde enough. I want a brighter and vivid color so that is why I will have to bleach it. *GASP* Luckily I do not have many levels to go through. My natural level is 8. So I am going to do a bleach bath to see if it will cause less damage. Bleaching damages the hair no matter what, but you can do things to help it not be as bad. Using Olaplex would be best but I did not have the time or extra cash to buy it. So a bleach bath it is. What is a bleach bath? It's pretty simple. Basically you mix up your bleach and developer equal parts like you usually would but then you add shampoo to the bleach to dilute it. You could also use conditioner. (you just want to make sure that whatever shampoo/conditioner you use is either clear or white, but not bright white) Then you put it onto your hair like you would shampoo. Making sure you evenly coat the entire section. I have found from experience it works best with wet hair. I will be putting a disposable shower cap over my hair once it's coated but that step is optional. Gloves are also optional but help protect your hands because bleach can irritate the skin. As with any coloring or lightening process it is important to do a patch test if it is your first time using a chemical on your hair. It would suck to put money into something just to find out you have to wash it off quickly because you are allergic. A strand test is not the same thing as a patch test. My history with bleach bathing The first time I ever had one done was when I was working at Smart Styles Salon. I had been using manic panicvampire red for several months before deciding to go back to blonde. Well getting red out is a bitch, I will tell you that now. So we did the regular lightening process two times before I had the bleach bath done. I was so confused since in school they told us that water stops the bleaching process. So if my hair is wet how will it lift? Well it can stop the process but it usually just slows it down. So using a bleach bath is not going to give you a dramatic change. If you have to lift a lot your best bet would to do a regular lightening process. But you can do several bleach baths to get a dramatic lift, it would just take a few weeks since you should wait several days in between bleachings. TONING Toning the hair is usually a good idea, especially if you are wanting a certain shade. I want the least amount of yellow as possible so I am going with a purple toner. I'm using a higher developer then normal for the toner but I should not have to leave it on for very long. This step is totally optional but a good toner can really help bring out your color with out doing another bleaching. Aftercare I have several hair treatments I have been saving for this process, as it is very drying and my ends are already pretty dead and straw like. I haven't colored my hair in 2 years and I haven't used any bleach for the last 10 months. I have also drastically reduced the amount of heat damage. Mostly because my job requires me to wear my hair up so I do not get to make it pretty very often. Wearing my hair up all the time is not good for my hair either and helps cause damage and breakage. So the treatments are good even if you are not coloring your hair. But even the best treatments in the world can not cure breakage. Some products can make it feel better but if you have split ends or straw like hair your best option is trimming. I will have to trim my hair after the bleaching before I go into my crazy colors. Fingers crossed that I will not have to take off too much but I will not know until I see the finished product. Arctic Fox Hair color Arctic fox is a cruelty free vegan hair company that sells bright and vivid colors. I have already used Poison. their red, on my bestie and it looks amazing. VVVVVVV I can not wait to use it on my hair. I am not using red though. I am using a few colors to get end result.
I will post when it's finished of course *mwuahahaha* But I will say that arctic fox so far has been a brand I can really get behind. Besides being vegan & cruelty free they donate 15% of their products to help prevent animal abuse. Their formula bleeds less and does not stain as much as other brands. And it freakin smells like grapes which is one of my favorite things. I want to eat it!! I was also super happy to find that they offer discounts to professionals!! So that is what is going to be happening. I can not wait!!!
